Wednesday -- Rejoice!

A little pick-me-up for Wednesday. A song from the children.

Every year Skid prepares us for Wednesday. He lets us know we’ll have to draw deeply from our inner reserves to fill this day with as much upbeat enthusiasm and joy as the days that came before.  It’s not that life needs to be all games and laughter.  But these kids have seen their share of heartache and so, for a little while, we want to whisk them away from their troubles and show them the love of God and the joy of being His children.

I love the fact that we have a Father who encourages – no, commands us – to be joyful – “Rejoice in the Lord always. Let me say it again: Rejoice!” Philippians 4:4.

And so, we make it our mission to greet Wednesday with a smile. And there’s no slowing down because today is day of finishing things up. The house crew – who got a late start this week because a holdup on equipment – will race to get the house finished by the end of the day so it can be presented to the expectant young family tomorrow. The Gaga Ball Court crew will not only the finish the court but they will also host its inaugural game. There are minion Twinkees to make and Lego cakes to decorate. Kids to play games with. Food to be distributed to families in Maneadaro. This is the last day of teen Bible classes. And, our Skit will close and a magical piece of art will be finished by God’s hand… just wait and see.

But for all that we give and do, we are given far more in return. There is the child who now waits for you and calls you by name. The woman in Maneadaro that upon receiving the gift of food gives you, a stranger, a long, tight hug. There are the kids on the dusty dirt road who surround you for the chance at getting a small toy leftover from a McDonald’s Happy Meal. There is the indescribable joy in your heart at knowing that what the Lord has done for us far surpasses each small act of kindness and service we perform here…and that makes what would be hard to do this Wednesday so easy.

Thank you for your prayers and support. We pray we’re honoring your commitment to us with our service to this place and its people.

For her winning Wednesday attitude and service, Sarah Bown is awarded the Festival of Sharing Sombrero!
